Hyundai i20 N Line | What's New?

Hyundai i20 N line, With this car Hyundai wanted to appear a little sportier than their usual i20 family hatchback, which of course is one of the most popular hatchbacks that you can buy in the country is.

What is N line?
For Hyundai, N line, N means Namyang, which is the R&D center and of course, the legendary Nurburgring and that cumulates to make the N brand, which is Hyundai's version of AMG or M, and this is the first car to come out of that N branding, but, it isn't the full fledged N hatchback, this is the i20 N line, which means, the kick in the standard car and ketchupped it up a little bit to make it a little bit more interesting and interesting.

So what does this extra N line ketchup gives you?
Well, it gives you red accents on the bumper and the bumper itself is different, it's a lot more sportier, you also get a different grille and as a combination, it looks like a bit of an Angry Bird that's ready to be catapulted off the slingshot in the game. You get the standard stuff like the LED head lamps, a set of 16-inch alloy wheels, which are actually much nicer looking than the kind of stuff we've been seeing from a lot of automakers these days. I really wish Hyundai had gone that one size up and given a 17-inch wheel, but well, 16 is what it is.

You also get that red accent on the side and a whole bunch of black accents everywhere. So you get the black spoiler, which is a much larger spoiler than the standard car, you get the black mirror caps and coastal side skirts are black as well.

On the whole, as compared to a standard car, yes, this is a bit of an upgrade, but you have to remember this is more of a styling pack upgrade, more of a variant upgrade than an all-out hot hatchback. There are some changes under the skin though. Now the first big change that you can actually see and talk about is the fact that it gets rear disc brakes, which means, it brakes a lot better than the standard car and if you've ever driven on a track, or if you've ever driven sprightly or quick, you know that brakes are as important as putting a whole bunch of extra horsepower under the bonnet, so that's a great thing.

It also has updated suspension, very slightly tuned suspension to have that little bit better feel and it also has slightly better steering response, at least that's what the R&D department of Hyundai has said. Another upgrade that I really like, it gets dual-tip exhausts, just like the Honda City VTEC got so many decades ago.

Sadly though, for all the upgrades on the outside, Hyundai has left the engine unchanged. So it still has that three cylinder 1.0-litre turbocharged motor making 120hp and 172Nm of torque. It just isn't the exterior that Hyundai has settled with on the N line, but the interior as well. So you've got an all-black interior, which is great because, in my opinion, anything with an even hint of sportiness should just get an all-black interior. It also gets the red accents everywhere, red and mid lighting, red stitching on the seats, red piping, red stitching on steering wheel and just look, chequered flag motif and the N logo on the leatherette seats as well.

And coming to the dashboard side, of course, it is based on the top-of-the-line versions, you get all the little accoutrements that go with the car, you get the 10.25-inch screen with the connected car features, you get the digital instrument cluster, and you get an option of the IMT 6-speed gearbox or the DCT, both of which don't come with a clutch pedal, the IMT and gearstick that's one of the nicest knobs I've ever seen.

Right, now, what do we make of this Hyundai i20 N line?
Well, in my opinion, a set of bigger 17-inch wheels, a little bit more power on the engine with a tune in which we know is possible, or slightly lower suspension to give better stance and I know I'm full of hoping and praying but maybe a valved exhaust system to make it sound even nicer could have really gone a long long way into making this a true-blue mass market hot hatchback which people would have thronged to, considering how much the Hyundai badge means to a lot of people.

For now though, this is an entry level, warm hatchback with the looks that definitely looks sportier, but that engine and that package 9.99 to hundred, is it really that much quicker than the standard car? I don't think so. But, as I said it looks the part.
